On September 5, 2007, 2-year old Jake Schied, son of Chris and Mary Beth (nee Foxgrover), was diagnosed with bilateral retinoblastoma, a very rare form of cancer, affecting both of his eyes. Jake has been enduring chemotherapy and laser treatments for the last several months. Aside from these treatments, Jake must undergo numerous Examinations Under Anesthesia (EUA) as well as MRI’s for the next several years. 

Friends of the Schied Family have formed the Jake’s Journey Foundation to help pay for the medical bills which will not be covered by insurance over the course of Jake’s treatments. In Jake’s honor, the Jake’s Journey Foundation will also donate a portion of the money raised to the University of Illinois Pediatric Oncology Group to help further their research for treatments and finding a cure.
